West Kentish Town Estate Masterplan

We are currently working as part of a team led by AHMM on the design of the £320 million redevelopment of West Kentish Town Estate, part of Camden Council’s Community Investment Programme. The 890-home estate regeneration project will re-provide existing council homes and affordable new homes, cross subsidised by new homes for private sale.

Working in collaboration and with the input of the local community, we have developed a landscape-led phased masterplan for 890 new homes, together with new commercial and community spaces. Arranged as a series of mid-rise courtyard housing blocks and mews streets connecting into and extending the surrounding street grain, new landscaped public spaces will provide legibility across the site. Nearly all existing mature trees will be retained, and decisions about height and massing have been led by provision of high quality public space and ambitious sustainability targets.

BHA have developed the design of the south-west corner in detail where the development faces period terraces and a school in a conservation area.  Our scheme for c150 new homes across a mix of tenures is arranged in two perimeter courtyard blocks. All ground floor homes have front doors and primary living spaces facing onto the street, with dual-aspect stacked maisonettes and apartments above.
