Gondar Gardens
We were appointed to re-order and extend this Victorian terraced house in West Hampstead to provide an enlarged family home. A few simple moves, including the installation of a profiled structurally glazed roof, have had a transformative effect.
The new kitchen extension is conceived as a play of two contrasting volumes; a larger simpler block, built of stack-bonded brick with full-height glazed windows and a sedum roof extending and following the line of the existing rear extension. A slimmer, glazed volume encloses the narrow garden strip adjacent, and allows the full width of the plot internally to be used, whilst retaining its form. The roof and end wall of the glazed volume are comprised entirely of double glazed units, incorporating no other structural elements,
