Crafts Council Headquarters

We were appointed by the Crafts Council to remodel their headquarters in central London. The existing building, a Grade II listed Methodist chapel, had previously had numerous unsympathetic internal alterations and was difficult for staff and visitors to navigate and use.  We helped the Crafts Council rationalise and refine their brief, and considered and costed a number of options for new works.

Our proposals included a new public resource centre and library, a reconfigured office space for their 60 staff, and associated store, WC & kitchen facilities. The proposals involved stripping out recent partitioning and cutting out sections of the floor plate to introduce natural ventilation and lighting into the deep plan building.  This revealed hidden qualities of the existing listed building fabric, improved legibility and enhanced the working environment.
